Left the snow/rain and cold yesterday for the always sunny Los Angeles California (greatest place on earth!!). Yesterday was kind of rough — the hotel we booked was less a hotel than a jail cell haha. They didn’t have showers or bathrooms in the room itself; they had communal ones by the elevators for the whole floor… It was one of those “grinding” memories you’ll never forget haha and I’ll always think about that hotel years from now when I stay in only W or Westins.
We switched out of that hotel immediately and then hit the Fatburger. My loyalty lies with In-n-Out so I couldn’t eat it, had to grab something from the Japanese house across the street!
Anyway tonight is the Grammy’s and I’ve never been more hype!! I’ll post more about the whole week as we go along.

We started filming the music video for the song “The One” ft. Meek Mill last night. The track has a 60′s type vibe to it so we went with a 60′s style video theme, which is so fun to create. We transformed Ricks’ living room into a chill pad, I raided the basement of my parents’ house for most of the decorations and Steve Duffy had a ton of clothes from that era that we all sported. Add a little fog machine, some great lighting via Ricks and you’ve got yourself a set!

Got a chance to catch up with my bro Josh this morning up on Temple U’s campus which was great, then stopped by DJ Damage’s place to go over the screenplay and his character. Rehearsals start next week for the movie, but the actual filming is being pushed back to the week of the 20th of Feb.
I need to get a few more music videos in the bag to be ready for my upcoming album release. I only have one completed right now “We Gotta Go” which is two too short. So starting tonight, through next week we’re filming two more. “Just For Me” and “The One”.
2/3 (tonight) shooting a performance scene in my apartment (Just For Me)
2/4 shooting a rehearsal scene in our rehearsal spot (Just For Me)
2/5 Super Bowl day off
2/6 shooting the entire video for “The One” at Ricks’ house (building the set Monday morning, filming from around 3-10pm)
2/7 Editing as Ricks is out of town and we can’t shoot anything
2/8 shooting the solo scenes for “my girlfriend” (Just For Me). Scene rehearsal with Damage and Ricks (Feature Film)
2/9 shooting the rooftop party scene down at Rittenhouse Square 5pm-11pm (Just For Me)
2/10 Editing
2/11 LA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (where we have 4 music video shoots booked, plus a few scenes for the feature film, plus Grammy parties!!!)

Pre-Production is one of the most important pieces to the filmmaking puzzle. Without a well organized plan of attack, you’ll be wasting a lot of time (and not just your own), energy and money.
Our film, “Jaded” will hopefully be under a 30 day shoot.. We work fast and efficiently, and after breaking down the script by location and character we know exactly who we need on what days, and can set up the shoot dates so that every actor is on set as few times for as little as possible. Having people sitting around waiting is not a good thing.
And lastly, craft services aka food on set is perhaps the most important of all. As the saying goes… “You can over-work us… under-pay us… but DON’T under-feed us”.

I’m starting to honestly believe Woody Allen and myself are one in the same person. I love his movies.
As if I wasn’t already dying to get to Europe, this movie just made me want to be there more. It’s a slow, drama/romantic comedy, so if you’re only entertained by the Kardashians, Jersey Shore and the shows on E! this movie is definitely not for you. However if you appreciate a good story, you like to watch relationship based movies, or have even a fraction of the obsession with Rachel McAdams that I do you’ll probably enjoy it. The chick from Inception (Marion Cotillard) was amazing too, there’s something about French accents that have me immediately falling in love with the girl.
I’m not here to write up a critique on the movie, I just wanted to publicly thank everyone who created it, because it really inspired me. Sounds corny saying that, I know. But there are very few movies that really make me go out and …create. It’s usually because the movie is so good that I take it as a personal challenge to my ego and so I feel the need to immediately try to match it or conquer it in some way or another.
Woody Allen also wrote, directed and starred in all of his early movies. I’m looking to do the same thing, so I really respect his work just on that level alone.
If you aren’t familiar with his movies, check them out. There are a bunch on Netflix for free streaming.

his early movies are really funny–started as a standup comic

I want to be a novelist SO BADLY haha but novels take a long time to create, from story to outline to prose to editing to finished to published can take years. But if you’re prolific enough it can take just a few months. Look at James Patterson or Lee Child or David Baldacci (can you tell what genre of fiction I like?) they pump out a book or two every year.
I think I’m going to commit to it this year. I’ll get the story and outline done this spring, and I’m going to just start a savings account so I can take a month off and go to France or Spain or Italy to write it.
Life really is all about what you make it, and you really can do whatever you want. There just aren’t a lot of people in the world who do, for whatever reasons. I blame lack of courage and an unwillingness to take risk, you may say “the economy is bad” or “the timing just isn’t right”. I don’t really care, the choice is yours. I know where I’m headed this summer!

All this week I’ve been writing out my new screenplay project. It’s 93 pages. I started Monday morning and finished last night. I literally did nothing for four days straight other than write. I loved it!
I’ve been working on the idea for this movie for a while. Over the past few weeks I’ve developed the characters and plot structure, and mapped it all out in an outline broken down by minutes. In screenplay format, 1 page = 1 minute of movie time. So 93 pages is an hour and a half long movie, which is pretty standard.
I want to have a feature film completed not only so that my company South9 Entertainment has one under our belt, but so I can get the acting and directing under my belt as well. It’s a big project, but an amazing thing to know you’ve completed.
This is my second screenplay I’ve written. The writing process on this project went a lot smoother than my first one. Experience helps a lot!
The great thing about being a filmmaker is that when I write something or think of a project I want to film, I can just go out and do it. Most writers wish and pray for a production company to come along and take an interest in their script.
I’m not one to sit around and wait for something to be handed to me…
